Get the best results! Here you will find simple quick tips and advice so that your particular painting project will be as good and smooth as possible.
A good preparatory work lays the foundation for a successful and sustainable result – here you will get tips and advice regarding the preparations for painting knots, lining, wind panels or other house carpentry with Falu Rödfärg Knut&Foder.
If the wood is factory-primed or completely new and untreated, start by brushing the surface clean of dirt and dust.
If the wood has already been painted, all loose paint and wood must be removed with a scraper and wire brush. Then brush away any loose dust.
Use both a respirator and safety glasses when brushing as it creates a lot of dust.
Then wash the surfaces with the appropriate type of facade cleaner. We also recommend always using a mold killer before painting.
The best possible conditions produce the best possible results – this is what you should think about and ensure before the first brush stroke.
Before you start painting, you need to ensure that the wood is sufficiently dry – the moisture content should not exceed 15%. Also keep in mind that the daily temperature should not fall below +10 degrees, so feel free to check the weather forecast for the coming days and nights. Do not paint in direct sunlight or on a surface heated by the sun.
Regardless of which joinery you are going to paint, it is always recommended to mask and cover the adjacent surfaces that you do not want to paint. If you should still happen to spill or splash paint in the wrong places, you need to be quick with the drying cloth. A little water with soap or washing-up liquid can help with tough stains.
Start by stirring the paint thoroughly. On new, untreated wood, the paint must be diluted with 10% water for the first coat. Then let dry for 48 hours before the next ironing, this time with undiluted paint.
On previously painted surfaces, it is normally sufficient to apply undiluted paint.
On heavily exposed surfaces, for example surfaces facing south or west, it is advantageous to stroke one last time after 72 hours – for extra long durability.
Keep in mind that the color may change slightly between different production rounds. If the buckets have different batch numbers: then change the bucket at the corner of the house to avoid possible shade differences.
You are done with the painting – great! But before you can sit back and enjoy, there are a few final things you need to do.
After painting, wipe off as much paint as possible from the tools. Then clean them in water with a little detergent.
Paint residues and cans with leftover paint (even dried paint) must be handed in at a recycling centre.
When everything is done and cleaned up, there is only one thing left: to enjoy the result of beautifully freshly painted knots, linings, windshields or other house joinery. In addition, with a matt surface in perfect symbiosis with a facade painted with Falu Rödfärg Original or Falu Rödfärg Träfasad.
